A specific complaint alleging irregularities on the pretext of the Intellectual Property Rights department in Niper was turned down by the CBI in 2013. Prof Parikshit Bansal, who had filed the complaint, then approached the Punjab and Haryana high court. It accepted his complaint, issuing a notice to the CBI for verifying the contents of the complaint.
Bansal told TOI, "I and my two other colleagues started uploading information regarding the alleged irregularities in Niper on our blog. Indeed, the same information was being simultaneously verified by the CBI."
The CBI had claimed to have found substance in the complaints against Niper officials but when the petitioners highlighted several holes in the CBI probe, it was forced to look at the probe from a fresh angle.
A senior CBI official said, "We cannot make any comment on the source of getting information. But we are open to every method that provides us information in our probe. The investigation is still on."
