 Centre removes Niper director

The Union ministry of chemicals and fertilisers has ordered the removal of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (Niper) officiating director K K Bhutani and three other professors for holding the posts despite being overage. The orders issued on March 3 stated that professors who have obtained the age of 60 years and above be removed. Bhutani would turn 65 by December this year.
The recent appointments made at Nipers in Hyderabad, Hajipur, Rae Bareli and Guwahati has the age limit of 60 years for the director's post.


The officiating director of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) K K Bhutani has finally been ordered to retire. He, along with three other senior faculty members, have been retired by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers with immediate effect.

A communication has been sent to NIPER regarding the retirement of Dr K K Bhutani; Dr A K Chakraborti, dean and head of department of medicinal chemistry; Prof K P Kartha, a professor in the department of medicinal chemistry and Prof P P Singh, department of pharmacology and toxicology.


Three weeks after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the premises of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in SAS Nagar and registered a case against its officiating director KK Bhutani and seven others for allegedly causing a loss of crores of rupees to the government exchequer, the union ministry of chemicals and fertilisers has issued retirement orders for Bhutani (64) and three other officials on the ground that they were continuing in service beyond the permissible age of 60 years. Prof KPR Kartha, Prof AK Chakraborti and Dr PP Singh have also been issued the orders and all are above 60.
